Holzmann headlines opening day of Princess Anne Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Hannah Holzmann is tied for 18th place and the UTSA women's golf team is in 10th after the opening round of the Princess Anne Invitational, which teed off Friday at Princess Anne Country Club (par 70/5,816 yards).
 
Holzmann fired a 1-over-par 71 to pace the Roadrunners, who carded a 291 and sit one shot behind Campbell and only five strokes out of the top five with 36 holes remaining. UTSA is one shot ahead of Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee and two in front of USF in the 15-team field led by Virginia Tech (276).
 
Holzmann got off to a torrid start, at one time dipping to 4-under par after a birdie on the 386-yard, par-4 fourth hole, an eagle on the 470-yard, par-5 sixth and a birdie on the 146-yard, par-3 seventh, which led to a 31 on the front nine. The sophomore from San Antonio settled for a 40 on the back and stands six shots off the pace of 5-under set by Chattanooga's Esme Hamilton.
 
Madison Kidd is one shot behind Holzmann after posting a 2-over 72 that featured 14 pars and a birdie on the 526-yard, par-5 18th. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native shares 25th place in her first tournament of her senior season.
 
Meanwhile, Ana Gonzalez and Camryn Carreon are part of a tie for 46th place after each turned in a 74 on Friday in providing the other two counting scores for the Roadrunners. Gonzalez, a junior from Monterrey, Mexico, wrote down a birdie on No. 6 to highlight her opening round. Carreon, a freshman from San Antonio birdied the 529-yard, par-5 10th hole in matching her season-best scorecard.
 
Nicole Polivchak rounded out the UTSA lineup with a 75 and the junior is tied for 58th.
 
The second round is slated for Saturday and the Roadrunners will tee off No. 10 beginning at 8:06 a.m. CT.
