EWA BEACH, Hawaii — Hunter Bott fired a 3-under-par round to move into the top 20 and the UTSA men's golf team is in a tie for 10thplace after the second round of the Hoakalei Invitational, which continued on Tuesday at Hoakalei Country Club (par 72/7,444 yards).
Bott used three birdies during a bogey-free round to register a 69, the best scorecard of his freshman season. A native of Montgomery, he leaped 30 places up the leaderboard and into a tie for 19th place at 2-under par.
A day after posting a 73 to open the 54-hole event, Bott wrote down four on a pair of par fives — the 432-yard second and 591-yard 13th— and also had a two on the 203-yard 17th hole in bettering his previous collegiate best round by three strokes. He is three shots out of the top 10 and six off the pace of 8-under set by Harrison Kingsley of San Diego and Shiso Go of East Tennessee State.
Meanwhile, the Roadrunners carded a 3-over 291 on Tuesday and are tied with Loyola Marymount for 10th place at 2-over 578. UTSA sits three shots ahead of Louisiana and only seven strokes out of the top five in the 20-team field.
Collin Clark is tied for 24th at 1-under 143. The senior followed Monday's 69 that featured his first hole-in-one with a 74 on Tuesday that was highlighted by a birdie on the 340-yard, par-4 11th.
Christian Fanfelle posted UTSA's second-best scorecard of the day with an even-par 72 that included four birdies, three coming as part of a 33 on the back nine. The freshman from San Antonio moved into a tie for 64th place at 40-over 148, as he netted a four-shot improvement from his opening round 76.
Will Adams also is part of the tie for 64th at 4-over 148. The sophomore from Odessa recorded a pair of birdies in his second-round 77 after opening with a 71 on Monday.
David Harrison closes out the UTSA lineup in 79th at 6-over 150. The freshman from Trophy Club provided the fourth counter in the second round with a 76 that featured two birdies.
No. 10 Louisville and 32nd-ranked East Tennessee State share the 36-hole lead at 14-under 562 with No. 41 Mississippi two shots back in sole possession of third.
The final round is scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT shotgun start on Wednesday.
