Cabrera secures upset as Roadrunners complete fall schedule

 COLLEGE STATION, Texas – UTSA women's tennis fall campaign concluded at the ITA Texas Regional, hosted by Texas A&M over the weekend but not before Laura Cabrera knocked off a nationally ranked player. 
 
Cabrera opened the singles portion of her tournament with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Baylor's Kristina Sorokolet, who is ranked 17th nationally in the opening round, before bowing out against Texas Tech's Isabella Dilaura 6-7(2), 3-6.
 
By a tally of 8-4 against TCU's tandem of Chloe Hule and Stevie Kennedy, Jasmin Starr and Kylee Kato fell in the round of 32. Dina Menon and Sophie Omoworare were unable to advance past the round of 16 with an 8-5 defeat by Rice's Priya Niezgoda and Anastaia Smirnova.
 
Keegan McCain dropped her first set at the ITA Texas Regional Thursday before battling through the consolation bracket. Her first fall campaign as a Roadrunner ended in the Round of 16 with a 2-6, 0-6 setback to the Aggies Tatiana Makarova. She registered a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Claire Fisher and a 7-6 (3), 7-5 triumph against Chacadyah Lewis en route to the showdown with Makarova.
 
Omoworare did not advance to the round of 16 in the consolation, falling to UT Arlington's Aida Garcia, 2-6, 6-2, 5-10.
 
After falling in her first singles match, Laura Munoz-Baroja cruised past Alicia Thal of UTRGV 6-2, 6-0, before being upended by Texas A&M's Jayci Goldsmith 2-6, 4-6.

The Roadrunners take a hiatus from competition before commencing with the spring session in January 2020.
