Roadrunners top Golden Eagles 2-1

SAN ANTONIO – For the first time in program history, the UTSA soccer team won its second-consecutive Conference USA win with a 2-1 victory over Southern Miss Thursday evening.
 
The Roadrunners improved to 6-6-1, 2-4-0 C-USA on the season, while the Golden Eagles fall to 6-8-0, 1-5-0 C-USA.
 

 
In the 19th minute of the game, Deja Sandoval headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Ellis Patterson.
 
Southern Miss tied up the game in the 33rd minute when Ariel Diaz shot from the left side of the box and found the far, right corner, out of the keeper's reach.
 
With just under 20 minutes remaining in the game, Kendall Kloza got a head on the ball off another Ellis Patterson corner and Sandoval knocked the ball into the net to take the lead.
 
The Roadrunners held the Golden Eagles to three shots in the final 15 minutes of the game.
 
Jil Schneider picked up her third with of the season and posted eight saves.
 
UTSA had 19 shots with 12 on target, while USM posted 15 with nine on goal.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Sunday when they host Louisiana Tech for the final home game and Senior Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
