SAN ANTONIO – The nation's leading scoring backcourt from a year ago, UTSA men's basketball juniors Jhivvan Jackson and Keaton Wallace, have been tabbed preseason All-Conference USA in a voting of the league coaches, it was announced by the conference on Thursday afternoon.
Jackson, who led the conference with 22.9 points per game a year ago, and Wallace, who ranked fourth in the circuit in scoring with 20.2 points per game, were two of the eight-member preseason All-Conference USA team. Jackson earned first-team All-Conference USA honors a year ago, while Wallace was named a second-team all-league performer. The duo combined to average 43.1 points per game – tops among the NCAA's backcourts – while helping direct the Roadrunners to a second-place finish in the league standings.
A native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Jackson has averaged 20.6 points per game in his two-year career. Jackson, the 2017-18 C-USA Freshman of the Year, averaged 18.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game before suffering a season-ending injury in his collegiate debut season. He missed the first three games of the year, and returned for the following five games on a minute restriction, but still managed to lead C-USA in scoring with 22.9 points per game as a sophomore.
Wallace, a native of Dallas, Texas, had a breakout season in 2018-19 as one of the nation's most prolific scoring threats. He averaged 20.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game as a sophomore, shattering UTSA's record with 121 3-pointers. He was tabbed first-team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches following the season.
The Roadrunners will open the 2019-20 season with an exhibition at home vs. Texas A&M International on Oct. 30 and will tipoff the season officially at Oklahoma on Nov. 5.
