Final 2019 Summer Baseball Notebook

SAN ANTONIO – As fall practice for UTSA baseball team begins this week, 10 players bring their sharpened skills to the field after playing this past summer in various leagues.  
 
TAYLOR BARBER (Hutchinson Monarchs, Sunflower Collegiate League)
Led the Monarchs in games (26), runs (28), doubles (6), home runs (6), RBIs (24) and hit by pitch (10), while also ranking among club leaders in hits (2nd, 34), walks (2nd, 15), batting average (3rd, .358) and at-bats (3rd, 95). Link
 
ZACH GRIGGS (Arroyo Seco Saints, California Collegiate League)
Combined for a 0-0 record and 4.82 ERA (5 ER/9.1 IP) over eight games – all in relief – and recorded a save in his one opportunity … posted a 14.47 K/9 with 15 punch-outs, while walking 10. Link
 
CHASE HACKER (Kokomo Jackrabbits, Northwoods League)
Appeared in 41 contests, batting .186 (22 for 118), with four doubles, 16 runs and nine RBIs, with 15 walks … tallied a 0-0 record and 4.50 ERA (2 ER/2.0 IP) in two appearances on the mound, giving up two hits and no walks with one strikeout. Link
 
CHASE KENG (Kokomo Jackrabbits, Northwoods League)
Finished for the team lead with two triples, while also ranking among club leaders it doubles (T-2nd, 10), games played (T-3rd, 53), stolen bases (3rd, 13), at-bats (3rd, 194), runs (3rd, 25), hits ( 4th, 44) and RBIs (6th, 18). Link
 
GRIFFIN PAXTON (Victoria Harbourcats, West Coast League)
Played in the most games on the team (45), leading the squad in at-bats (162), hits (51), triples (3), RBIs (31), hit by pitch (6), while finishing among the team leaders in runs (2nd, 41), doubles (T-3rd, 9), walks (4th, 25), home runs (T-6th, 4), batting average (6th, .315) and steals (T-10th, 6).

DYLAN ROCK (OC Riptide, California Collegiate League)
Made the most appearances on the team (40), recording the most plate appearances (164), at-bats (135), hits (41), RBIs (24), walks (22), while finishing among the team leaders in total bases (T-1st, 57), doubles (T-2nd, 8), extra-base hits (T-2nd, 11), runs (3rd, 24), stolen bases (3rd, 18) and batting average (4th, .304).     Link
 
SHANE SIRDASHNEY (Liberal Bee Jays, Kansas Collegiate League Baseball)
Tied for the team lead with five stolen bases and ranked among the team leaders in games played (5th, 31), at-bats (6th, 109), runs (3rd, 34), hits (6th, 30), doubles (5th, 6), home runs (T-3rd, 4), total bases (5th, 48), walks (4th, 18), RBIs (T-5th, 21). Link
 
BRYAN STURGES (Healdsburg Prune Packers, California Collegiate League)
His 181 plate appearances led the team and 14 stolen bases, while finishing amongst the team leaders in games played runs (T-1st, 48), (2nd-40), walks (T-2nd, 23), doubles (4th-10), home runs (3rd-7), extra-base hits (T-3rd, 17), total bases (4th-80), hit by pitch (4th-8), hits (5th-49), RBIs (5th-34), batting average (7th, .327). Link
 
JONATHAN TAPIA (Victoria Generals, Texas Collegiate League)
Hit .261 (12-for-46) with 12 runs and five RBIs in 14 appearances … reached base 43-percent of the time and slugged .370 … swiped 17 bases in 19 attempts. Link

Combined for a 2-2 record and 8.31 ERA (28 ER/30.1 IP) over 14 G/3 GS, with 22 strikeouts, averaging 6.53 K/9. Link
