Josiah Tauaefa added to Giants 53-man roster

SAN ANTONIO -- Former UTSA football star Josiah Tauaefa has been added to the 53-man roster for the New York Giants, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Tauaefa, a native of Corinth, Texas, led the Giants in tackles (16) during the preseason after inking with the club as a free agent. He spent the first month of the season on the practice squad.

During his three-year career as a linebacker with the Roadrunners, Tauaefa totaled 257 tackles to rank second in program history, adding 11.5 sacks and 22.5 tackles for a loss. He emerged as a standout in 2016, earning freshman All-America and Conference USA Freshman of the Year accolades as UTSA appeared in its first bowl game, the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.

After missing a chunk of his sophomore season due to injury, he starred in 2018, totaling 113 tackles, 11.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks. He was one of 10 semifinalists for the Butkus Award, given the nation's top linebacker.

The Giants return to action on Sunday with a home clash with the Minnesota Vikings at 12 p.m. CT.
