FIRST SERVE
•UTSA and Charlotte meet for the ninth time Friday.
• The Roadrunners hold a 7-1 edge over the 49ers, including 6-0 in regular-season play.
• UTSA and UTEP clash for the 45th time Sunday, the first of two matchups in a week.
• The Roadrunners hold a slim edge at 23-21, including a 12-match winning streak.

SETTING THE SCENE
• UTSA lifts the lid on its 14-match conference schedule at home for the fourth time in seven seasons as a member of Conference USA. 
• The Roadrunners are 14-14 all-time in league openers, including 7-7 at home. They are 11-6 to begin league play under head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff and enter with a 6-0 mark in the opener since joining C-USA in 2013. 
• Charlotte enters league play with a 9-6 record, including back-to-back sweeps of Chattanooga and Virginia Tech in the 49ers last two contests.
• UTEP opens its C-USA slate at No. 22 Rice Friday. The Miners enter the first weekend of league play with an identical mark as the Roadrunners at 7-6. They defeated Incarnate Word and Houston in consecutive five-set affairs at the Red Raider Classicbefore being swept by hosts Texas Tech Sept. 21.
 
 
SCOUTING CHARLOTTE
• The 49ers hit at a .208 clip, third lowest in the conference while holding opponents to the fifth-lowest mark at .183.
• They rank 10thin aces at 1.13 per set, 11thin kills at 11.98 and assists with 11.34.
• Charlotte's 18.04 digs per game leads the league while the 2.32 blocks is second.
• Yumi Garcia is best in the nation in total digs (354) and 6.81 per set. 
• Sydney Rowan averages 3.83 kills, which is fifth in C-USA.
• Tyra Galloway converted 76 of her 154 attacks, with 13 errors, posting a .409 hitting percentage at .409 and blocking 1.24 attacks per set, ranking third in both categories. 
 
SCOUTING UTEP
• The Miners rank in the bottom half of hitting percentage (.208), opponent hitting percentage (.192), assists (10.16), kills (11.68), while having the third-highest blocks (2.26) and fourth-highest aces (1.57)
• UTEP finished non-conference action above .500, the first time since 2011. 
• Mallory Yost converted 18 of her 28 attacks while Cheyenne Jones paces the Miners with 130 kills. 
• Alex Torres averages 3.85 digs, ninth most in the league, while freshman Irbe Lazda is the only other Miner to crack the top-10 in the league in any statistical category. Her .406 hitting percentage sits in fourth and her .38 service aces per set places her sixth.
