Sewell’s 68 highlights Monday action at Trinity Forest Invitational

DALLAS — Chad Sewell fired a 3-under-par 68 to highlight action for the UTSA men's golf team on Monday at the Trinity Forest Invitational.

Sewell posted three birdies and an eagle to lead the Roadrunners in the second round of the 54-hole tournament, which is being held at Trinity Forest Golf Club (par 71/7,486 yards), site of the PGA TOUR's AT&T Byron Nelson.

The junior from Conroe, Texas, eagled No. 7, a 570-yard par 5, and wrote down birdies on the 550-yard, par-5 first, the 495-yard, par-4 11th and 429-yard, par-4 16th holes. Sewell, who advanced to match play at the U.S. Amateur last month, equaled the best round of his collegiate career — both overall and versus par — with his fourth sub-70 scorecard as a Roadrunner. He is tied for 27th at even-par 142, as he registered a six-shot improvement from his opening round of 74 on Sunday.

David Harrison also shares 27th place at even par. The freshman from nearby Trophy Club posted a 72 on Monday that featured an eagle on the 630-yard, par-5 14th hole and a birdie on No. 1, after turning in a 70 in Sunday's round.

Will Adams is two strokes behind his fellow Roadrunners and in a tie for 44th place at 2-over 144. The Odessa Permian High School product turned in his second straight 72 behind birdies on Nos. 1 and 10.

Collin Clark and Hunter Bott round out the UTSA lineup in 57th (71-75—146) and 76th (74-75—149), respectively.

The Roadrunners are in 10th place at 6-over 574 after recording their second consecutive 287. UTSA is two shots ahead of Marquette and Abilene Christian and three in front of Mississippi State, while trailing Kansas State by only three strokes.

Arizona State and SMU are tied atop the leaderboard, followed by Houston, UC Davis, Little Rock and Rice.

Alex del Rey of Arizona State maintained the individual lead after posting a 64, as he is sitting at 11-under with 18 holes left to play.

The final round is slated for Tuesday and UTSA will tee off of No. 10 beginning at 8:05 a.m.
