Roadrunners fall short in overtime to Blue Raiders

SAN ANTONIO – The Roadrunners fell short, 3-4  in a tough matchup in overtime against the Blue Raiders in the conference opener Sunday afternoon.
 
UTSA falls to 4-3-1, 0-1-0 C-USA on the season, while Middle Tennessee improves to 4-5-0, 1-0-0 C-USA.
 

 
The Blue Raiders scored early with a goal in the fifth minute. Peyton DePriest scored from the left side of the box and slipped passed the keeper as the ball found the bottom left corner.
 
In the 27th minute, Abby Kassal scored her first goal of the season to tie the game off a double assist from Ellis Patterson and Lexi Bolton. Patterson passed the ball to Bolton who fed the ball to Kassal as she found the far corner.
 
The teams went into the locker room tied 1-1 at the half.
 
Opening the second half, Deja Sandoval scored in the 49th minute with a header off a corner kick from Patterson.
 
Middle Tennessee tied the game back up with a goal in the 58th minute. A player crossed the ball from the right side of the box and found MacKenzie Bonham at the left post and popped the ball into the net.
 
UTSA took the lead once more with a goal from Patterson. Nicole Galan fed the ball around a defender to Patterson who found the far, right corner, just out of the keeper's reach.
 
With 30 seconds remaining in the game, the Blue Raiders scored a goal, pushing the game to overtime.
 
In the 97th minute, Bonham scored once more for the Blue Raiders, taking the victory as she shot from outside the penalty box on the left side and found the right corner.
 
The Roadrunners posted nine shots, while the Blue Raiders had 11.
 
Kassal led the team with two shots on goal, while Sophie Milich had one save, increasing her season total to 14.
 
UTSA returns to on Sept. 29 when it hosts Rice at 1 p.m.
