Roadrunners shut out Lopes Sunday evening

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Goals from Ellis Patterson, Kendall Kloza and Nicole Galan pushed the Roadrunners past the Lopes with a 4-0 victory Sunday evening.
 
UTSA improves to 2-1 on the season as Grand Canyon falls to 1-3.
 

 
The Roadrunners scor3ed the first goal in the 19th minute of the game. Just outside the penalty box, Lexi Bolton passed the ball to Isa Hernandez, who flicked it to Ellis Patterson as she shot the ball to the far corner of the goal.
 
In the 38th minute, Abby Kassal took the corner kick and crossed the ball to Kendall Kloza who headed the ball into the net for her first collegiate goal. The Roadrunners led 2-0 at the half.
 
Patterson garnered her second goal of the game off an assist from Bolton and Hernandez in the 59th minute of the game. Hernandez won the ball in the midfield and passed the ball to Bolton, who slipped the ball to Patterson as she went between two defenders and passed the keeper to score.
 
In the 70th minute, senior Nicole Galan added the final UTSA goal off a pass from Alex Granville. Granville served the ball to Galan who scored from the middle of the box.
 
The Roadrunners posted 16 shots, with 12 on goal.
 
Sophie Milich picked up her first shutout and had seven saves on the game.
 
UTSA returns to action this Sept. 6-8 when they host the UTSA tournament. The Roadrunners will face Cleveland State on Friday and South Florida Sunday afternoon.
