SAN ANTONIO –Big runs propel UTSA past UIW with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-14) sweep in the Roadrunners lone exhibition of the preseason Thursday at the McDermott Center.
After surrendering the first two points in the opening set, UTSA rallied with three of the next four points, knotting the score at 3-3. The Roadrunners never trailed the rest of the set, thanks in part to a 16-6 run, building a comfortable advantage at 19-9. UIW strung together its longest rally of the set, trimming the margin to 19-12. UTSA closed the set by scoring six of the final nine points.
In set two, UIW rattled off seven of the first 10 points en route to a 16-10 cushion. The Roadrunners battled back and was within two at 20-18, before scoring seven of the final eight points and securing the win.
All square at 8-8 in the third set, UTSA opened its largest advantage of the set with a 10-3 run. The Cardinals capitalized on a couple miscues by the Roadrunners and sliced the deficit to six at 21-15. UTSA secured the sweep by scoring the final four points.

UTSA opens the season in Dallas against Stephen F. Austin Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. in the SMU Doubletree Invitational.
