Soccer opens season 1-0

BEAUMONT, Texas – The UTSA soccer team opened the 2019 with a 3-0 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette Thursday afternoon at the Cardinal Classic.
 
This is the fourth-consecutive season UTSA has opened the season 1-0.
 

 
The Roadrunners were on the board early with a goal off a corner kick at the 7:17 mark. UL tried clearing the ball from the penalty box, but Isa Hernandez served the ball near the back post and Katieann Lochte deflected it into the goal.
 
In the 17th minute, Lexi Bolton intercepted a pass and took players one-on-one until she buried the ball in the top corner of the net to increase the lead to two.
 
In the second half, UTSA picked up another interception and found Ellis Patterson who crossed it in as it deflected of a defender and into the net to lead 3-0.
 
The Roadrunners outshot the Ragin' Cajuns 15-3 and 9-2 in shots on goal.
 
UTSA returns to the field on Sunday when it takes on Oklahoma State at 12 p.m. in Beaumont.
