SAN ANTONIO —Four UTSA golfers — Collin Clark, David Harrison, Michael Rome and Chad Sewell — have qualified for the Texas State Open, a primarily professional event operated by the Northern Texas PGA which will be held July 30-Aug. 2 at The Cascades Club in Tyler.

Clark, a rising senior, tied for second place at a qualifier on June 29 on the Bridges Course at Firewheel Golf Park in Garland. The Mansfield native fired a 4-under-par 68 that was highlighted by five birdies to earn one of six qualifying spots from that tournament.

Harrison, an incoming freshman from Trophy Club, turned in a 2-under 70 to tie for second place at a qualifier on June 12 at Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound. He also is qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur on July 15-20 in Toledo, Ohio, after winning a qualifier on June 17 in Ardmore, Okla.

Rome, a rising junior, grabbed one of four qualifying spots on July 2 at Barton Creek Resort in Spicewood. The Austin Westlake High School product carded a 5-under 66 to finish in sole possession of fourth place at that qualifier.

Sewell, also a rising junior who recently finished seventh at the Rice Planters Amateur on June 19-22, was the runner-up at a qualifier held on July 1 at The Golf Trails of The Woodlands. The Conroe native registered a 3-under 69 for one of six qualifying spots from that event.
