SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's basketball team will participate in the inaugural Sunshine Slam Nov. 8-10 at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Fla., it was announced by the event on Monday morning.
The Roadrunners will play in the three-day, round-robin event from Friday-Sunday, Nov. 8-10 in Kissimmee, Fla. The games will be streamed live on FloSports.tv and will be played at Silver Spurs Arena at Osceola Heritage Park. Tickets are available on TicketMaster.
All three opponents will be first-time foes for the Roadrunners.
Southern Illinois, coached by former Loyola-Chicago assistant Bryan Mullins, posted 17 wins in 2018-19, led by guards Aaron Cook (10.4 point per game) and Eric McGill (9.7 points, 5.7 rebounds per game).
Oakland, led by 36th year head coach Greg Kampe, welcome back three starters from 2018-19, including leading scorer and rebounded Xavier Hills-Mals, who totaled 18.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
Coached by Martin Ingelsby, Delaware is coming off a 17-win season in 2018-19, its most wins in five years. Guard Ryan Allen returns as the leading scorer, averaging 16 points per game.
The Roadrunners are coached by fourth-year head coach Steve Henson, the 2017-18 Conference USA Coach of the Year. Henson returns three starters from a team that has posted 37 wins over the last two years. Juniors Jhivvan Jackson and Keaton Wallace led all of the NCAA's backcourts in scoring in 2018-19, with Jackson pacing the circuit with 22.9 points per game. Wallace averaged 20.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and joins senior forward Byron Frohnen as returning starters. Frohnen has made all 100 starts on his career and averaged 6.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as a junior.
