SAN ANTONIO – Zach Luevanos joins the UTSA baseball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach, head coach Pat Hallmark announced Wednesday.
Luevanos spent the previous two seasons as a volunteer assistant for Hallmark at Incarnate Word. His responsibilities included camp coordinator, as well as, working with the hitters, catchers and outfielders.
"I am extremely grateful to coach Hallmark and Dr. Lisa Campos for the opportunity to coach at UTSA," Luevanos said. "I am looking forward to working hard for coach Hallmark and this organization. It is going to be an exciting year for Roadrunner baseball."
During his time with the Cardinals, Luevanos worked with three players that earned Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America honors over the last two seasons.
Outfielder Ridge Rogers earned a spot on the team after the 2018 campaign, after posting a .350 (72-for-206), with 34 runs scored and driving in 34 runs. He served as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Lamar, in 2013 before turning his focus to management and training. Luevanos served as the Director of Baseball Operations for two baseball training facilities in Beaumont, Texas from 2014-2016.
The two-time All-South Texas and one-time All-State performer at Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, Texas hit .448 as a senior and .420 as a junior. Luevanos began his collegiate career at Seminole State and earned All-Region honors both seasons. His cousins, Tony and Rudy Jaramillo, are former MLB hitting coaches.
What They Are Saying About Luevanos
"Zach Luevanos traits and ways are not normal in today's baseball teaching world. I have no hesitations in saying that he is not a baseball coach but a prodigy in baseball combat. He brings an organized, systemized form of tactical knowledge extrapolated from his many experiences rooted in training the mind, the body and the instincts to the fullest. His ways are not theory but testimony. In other words, Zach is simply gifted."
