DALLAS —UTSA seniors Josh Dunlop and Brett Winnegan have been named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Team as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Dunlop was chosen as one of five offensive lineman on the squad, while Winnegan received the nod at kickoff returner.
A versatile offensive lineman who has logged time at both guard and tackle, Dunlop has appeared in 23 career games and has drawn 19 starts. As a junior, the Zionsville, Ind., native started all 12 contests — the first five at right guard and the last seven at right tackle — and helped the offense accumulate 2,570 total yards of offense, 1,918 through the air and 1,052 on the ground. The 6-7, 305-pounder helped the Roadrunners pile up 400 yards in the season finale against North Texas and also was part of a unit that did not allow a sack against UAB and held NCAA career sacks leader Jaylon Ferguson of Louisiana Tech to just two assisted tackles.
Winnegan has appeared in 32 career games, primarily as a returner and running back, and is making the move to wide receiver for the Roadrunners this season. The Pearland Dawson High School product, who missed all of the 2018 season due to injury, holds UTSA career records for kickoff returns (62) and kickoff return yardage (1,360) and he has averaged 21.94 yards per return. As a junior in 2017, he posted a 23.2-yard kickoff return average and broke loose for a career-best 51-yard return against North Texas and a 46-yarder versus Southern Miss. Winnegan has rushed 21 times for 137 yards, including a 71-yard touchdown dash against Texas State in 2017, and caught four passes for 26 yards during his time in the backfield.
The Roadrunners will kick off their ninth season of play and seventh as a member of C-USA on Saturday, Aug. 31, when they host UIW at 5 p.m. at the Alamodome. Season tickets are on sale now by calling or texting 210-458-UTSA (8872) or visiting http://goUTSA.com/tickets.
