Track & Field adds Caleb Brandon to signing class

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced Friday that he has added Caleb Brandon to the Roadrunners' 2019 signing class.

A native of Killeen, Texas, Brandon was a standout quarter-miler for Harker Heights High School. He clocked a personal-best time of 49.22 to claim the bronze medal in the 400 meters at the Killeen I.S.D. Relays on March 8 and he grabbed gold with a 49.85 at the Patriot Relays later that month. At the District 12-6A Meet in April, Brandon collected silver with a 49.59 clocking and he helped lead the 4x400m relay to third place.

Brandon anchored the 4x4 to fifth place at the Class 6A state meet as a junior, as the quartet clocked a 3:15.50. As a senior, he led the 4x4 to fourth place at the area meet and to the Region 2-6A Meet. He ranks fourth in school history in the 400m and has anchored the 4x4 to two of the top five times in program annals.

"We're excited to announce that we've signed Caleb Brandon," Fox said. "He has performed at a high level in the open 400 and with the 4x4 over the last several years. He has a ton of potential and we can't wait to welcome him to the Roadrunner Family and help him develop even more during his college career."

Brandon also has a multitude of club and junior national experience. He ran the anchor leg for the 4x400m relay at the 2018 USATF Region 12 Junior Olympics and finished fifth in the 400m in 49.98 at the 2017 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Detroit.

Brandon is the 16th announced member of UTSA's 2019 class, as he joins men's signees Jayton Acosta, Oquendo Bernard, Joel McFarlane, Grant Szalek, Jack Turner, Harrison Wade and women's signees Taylor Armstrong, Vera Chinedu, Ana Carolin Da Silva, Ingeborg Gruenwald, Sigrid Kleive, Natasha Purchas, Zoie Reyna, Amaya Scott and Maren Wilms.
