UTSA pair garners Conference USA accolades

DALLAS —UTSA senior Sean Meehan was named second-team All-Conference USA and Christian Fanfelle made the C-USA All-Freshman Team, as the league office unveiled Friday its men's golf awards.

Meehan led the Roadrunners with a 72.68 stroke average and registered five top-20 finishes, including a win and a runner-up showing during his final season. The San Antonio native shared medalist honors at the season-opening Lone Star Invitational after carding a 4-under-par 140 (68-72) on TPC San Antonio's Oaks Course. He tied for second with a 4-under 212 (69-71-72) at the C-USA Championship and won both of his matches during UTSA's run to the league's title match against Middle Tennessee on April 24.

A product of Johnson High School, Meehan recorded seven sub-70 rounds in 2018-19 and 19 for his career, which ranks second in program history. He also finished his collegiate playing days tied for third on UTSA's low 54-hole total list with a 205 posted in winning the 2018 Wyoming Cowboy Classic.

Meehan's second-team selection is his first all-conference accolade and it is the 36th all-league certificate in school annals.

Fanfelle registered a 73.6 stroke average in his debut season with the Roadrunners. He turned in four top-25 finishes, highlighted by a tie for 12th place at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic where carded an even-par 216 (69-77-70) to help lead UTSA to a runner-up finish.

A native of San Antonio, Fanfelle posted his low 54-hole total when he fired a 5-under-par 211 (68-72-71) to tie for 16th at the Lake Charles Invitational. He recorded a 1-under 215 (73-70-72) to share 19th place at the Border Olympics and he was 22nd after turning in a 147 (70-77) at the All-American Intercollegiate. He tied for 40th at the C-USA Championship and scored a 4-and-3 win over Palmer Sadlowski in UTSA's conference title match against Middle Tennessee.

Fanfelle is the fourth Roadrunner to garner C-USA All-Freshman Team accolades in the last six seasons, as he joins Bryce Alley (2014), Zander Lozano (2015) and Michael Rome (2018).
