SAN ANTONIO —UTSA men's golf signees Hunter Bott and David Harrison wrapped up their prep careers with top-five finishes at the state tournament earlier this week.
Competing in his second straight Class 6A state tournament for Byron Nelson High School, Harrison fired a 5-under-par 139 at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown to tie for the individual lead at the end of 36 holes. The Trophy Club native bounced back from an opening-round 73 with a 6-under 66 to force a sudden-death playoff and he eventually settled for runner-up honors to help guide the Bobcats to sixth place in the team race.
Bott helped lead Montgomery High School to the Class 5A state tournament at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown. He carded an even-par 144 to finish in sole possession of fifth place and help the Bears to fourth in the team race. Bott posted a 1-under 71 in the first round and a 73 for the final 18.
Both players won their respective district crowns and posted top-10 regional finishes earlier this year.
Harrison captured the District 5-6A title with a Byron Nelson High School record 138 that included a Robson Ranch Golf Club course record 66 in the final round. He tied for individual medalist honors at the Region I-6A tournament after firing a 68-69—137 at Tangle Creek Golf Club in Grand Prairie.
Bott claimed the District 20-5A individual championship after posting a 2-under 142 (72-70). He then tied for eighth place at the Region III-5A tournament at La Torretta Lake Resort to help Montgomery claim the team title by 14 shots and advance to the state tournament.
