Slater Foust spins complete-game gem in senior day win over FAU

SAN ANTONIO – Junior Slater Foust stole the show on senior day Saturday at Roadrunner Field, tossing a two-hit complete game against Florida Atlantic.

Foust's masterful performance shut down one of Conference USA's best offenses, leading his team to a 4-1 victory. The Roadrunners improved to 24-26 on the season and 11-14 in league play.

The Owls (33-18, 18-8) first hit came with one out in the fifth when Francisco Urbaez broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run to left. After the home run, Foust regrouped and retired 14 of the final 16 hitters, allowing just a single and a walk.

In the home half of the fifth, senior Bryan Arias led off with a walk and scored on a double down the left field line by Bryan Sturges.

UTSA capitalized on two throwing errors by FAU's defense in the sixth, pushing the Roadrunners lead out to 3-1.

Chase Keng was hit-by-pitch to open the frame. The home side loaded the bases when the Owls made back-to-back throwing errors on consecutive sacrifice bunts. Arias ripped a 2-0 pitch through the left side of the infield, plating Keng and Aldo Buendia.

Buendia drove in Nick Thornquist in the next inning with a two-out single, increasing the advantage to 4-1.

Thornquist and Buendia registered two hits each, while four other Roadrunners tallied one apiece.

Foust went the distance for the second time this season and owns both of UTSA's complete games this season. He tossed a four hitter in a seven inning game in a 4-1 victory at UAB April 20.

Sunday's rubber-match is the final home game of 2019 for the Roadrunners. First pitch is at 11:30 a.m.
