Softball falls short in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The UTSA softball team fell short to Southern Miss, 4-1 Sunday afternoon.
 
The Roadrunners fall to 17-21 on the season and 6-9 in C-USA action, while the Golden Eagles improve to 22-16 overall and 8-7 in conference play.
 
In the bottom of the third, Nichols singled up the middle and Brown followed with a single to shortstop. Rayner reached on an error as runners advanced and Nichols scored. Brown and Rayner both stole bases and Sumerlin hit a sac fly to center as Brown scored. The Golden Eagles led 2-0 after the third.
 
Bailee Baldwin put the Roadrunners on the board with a solo home run to left center in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the frame, Davis reached on an error and Passeau followed with a double to right center as Davis scored. Taylor was walked, then stole second and Nichols reached first on a bunt.
 
UTSA had three hits and two errors and Southern Miss posted seven hits.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday when they host Texas State at 6 p.m. for the Set The Expectation game.
