HOUSTON – Freshman Jasmin Starr (Templestowe, Victoria, Australia) and junior Laura Cabrera (Barcelona, Spain) each earned their 11th singles wins but it wasn't enough as Houston posted a 5-2 win over UTSA women's tennis, on Friday afternoon at the Barbara Wallace Tennis Center.
UTSA (11-11) fell to Houston (13-5) as the Cougars claimed three wins in singles and the doubles point with wins on the first two courts.
Starr broke the UTSA freshman record for single wins in the No. 1 spot in the lineup, improving to 11-9 with the win. Cabrera took her mark to 11-8 with the win, including an 8-4 record on court No. 2.
UTSA also used Kylee Kato (Kahului, Hawaii), Mariah Plauth (Florianopolis, Brazil), Sophie Omoworare (Plano, Texas) and Charleen Tiwari (Perth, Australia) in the singles lineup. In doubles, Diya Menon (Plano, Texas) teamed with Plauth. Omoworare and Tiwari claimed the doubles win on the third court.
UTSA travels to face Baylor in Waco, Texas, on Sunday at 1 p.m. in a single match that was altered from the originally scheduled doubleheader.
