Patel named C-USA co-Pitcher of the Week

SAN ANTONIO – Karan Patel earned Conference USA co-Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

"Our staff and team are proud of Karan," head coach Jason Marshall said. " He's been our most consistent performer of the mound week in and week out and the honor is well deserved."

This is the first award of the season for the senior right-handed pitcher from Sugar Land, Texas.

Patel tossed six-plus innings in the series-opening victory over UAB Thursday, allowing just one run on two hits and striking out 12. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth, registering his seventh-quality start in a row.

With his 12 punch-outs, Patel moved up to sixth on the program's all-time strikeout list with 215, passing Josh Ruffin (210) and Brock Hartson (214).

"Karan was the catalyst to a series win at UAB and his 12 strikeouts are an indicator of the type of stuff he had last Thursday," Marshall said.

The Roadrunners return to action Tuesday when they host Houston Baptist at 6 p.m
