SAN ANTONIO — Riding the momentum of a runner-up finish at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, the UTSA men's golf team will compete in the Air Force Reserve Conference USA Championship on Monday-Thursday, April 22-25, at Texarkana Country Club (par 72/6,935 yards).
The Roadrunners are the second-highest ranked team in the league and will face Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Old Dominion, Rice, Southern Miss, UAB, UTEP and WKU. All five players in the UTSA lineup will take a season stroke average of 73.36 or better into the four-day tournament.
The field will play 54 holes of stroke play with each of the three rounds teeing off at 8 a.m. Monday-Wednesday. The top four teams will advance to the match play semifinals at 8 a.m. Thursday with the two advancing squads facing off for the conference championship that afternoon.
Collin Clark collected his first collegiate win to lead UTSA to a runner-up finish at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on April 15-16 in Pearland, Texas. Clark fired a 5-under-par 211 (70-68-73) to lead the Roadrunners to an 868 (293-289-286) — their fourth straight top-five showing — and the junior from Mansfield was tabbed C-USA Co-Golfer of the Week for his performance.
In its conference tournament history — which dates back to the 1987 Trans America Athletic Conference (now Atlantic Sun) Tournament — UTSA has placed in the top five 16 times, including four runner-up finishes. The Roadrunners' top finish as a member of C-USA came in 2016 when they placed fourth with an 882 to advance to the match play semifinals.
Two Roadrunners have claimed individual league titles. Magnus Dohlvik recorded a 70-72-77—219 in 1997 to win the Southland crown, while John Elizondo was the Southland's medalist in 2006 after carding a 67-71-75—213.
UTSA finished sixth with an 885 (296-293-296) at last year's C-USA Championship behind Sean Meehan, who tied for 16th with a 220 (75-73-72). Current sophomores Michael Rome and Chad Sewell also competed in that event, placing 24th (75-75-74—224) and 31st (73-76-77—226), respectively.
