SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's golf team will travel to Fort Myers, Fla., to defend its title at the Conference USA Championship, which will be held Monday-Wednesday, April 15-17, at Verandah Club's Old Orange course (par 72/6,194 yards).
The Roadrunners, 60th in the latest Golfstat rankings, will compete against Charlotte, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, No. 40 Old Dominion, Southern Miss, UAB, UTEP and WKU for the league crown.
The field will play 18 holes with tee times beginning at 7 a.m. CT each day. UTSA is set to tee off in the first round beginning at 7:50 a.m. Monday off of No. 1.
Julie Houston, who recently was named to the InTouch Credit Union C-USA All-Academic Team for the second straight year, and Ana Gonzalez finished 1-2 to lead the Roadrunners to the 2018 C-USA team title. UTSA posted an 874 to finish 13 shots ahead of UTEP (887) and 17 in front of Old Dominion (891) en route to its first team championship as a member of C-USA. Houston, a senior from Allen, fired a 3-under-par 69 in the final round to wrap up a 4-under 212 (73-70-69) and edge her teammate by just one stroke. Gonzalez carded a 3-under 213 (70-73-70) to end up four shots ahead of the third-place finisher and both players were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances.
UTSA has captured a trio of league team titles, winning back-to-back Southland Conference championships in 2011-12 before claiming last year's C-USA crown. The Roadrunners have finished second twice (2009 Southland, 2014 C-USA), and are riding an 11-year streak of placing fourth or better at conference tournaments.
Four Roadrunners have claimed individual crowns — Fabiola Arriaga (2014 C-USA), Julie Houston (2018 C-USA), Allie Jordan (2009 Southland) and Shannon Jungman (2012 Southland).
UTSA tied for fourth at The Brickyard Collegiate in its last outing on April 8 in Macon, Ga. Gonzalez posted a 4-under 140 (69-71) to finish third with the sixth-best 36-hole total in program history in a tournament that was shortened by one round due to unplayable conditions.
