UTSA to return to action this weekend at Texas A&M Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — Following a week off from competition, the UTSA track & field teams will return to action this Friday-Saturday, April 12-13, at the Texas A&M Invitational at EB Cushing Stadium in College Station. 
 
The Roadrunners will face Air Force, Arizona State, Houston, Rice, Sam Houston State, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas State and UTEPin the two-day, team-scored meet. Live results can be found online at https://flashresults.com/2019_Meets/Outdoor/04-12_TamuInvite/.
 
The meet will get underway at 4 p.m. Friday with the women's pole vault and the men's and women's long jumps on a day that features all field events.
 
Saturday's action will start in the field with the men's pole vault at 3 p.m. Running events are slated to begin at 5:25 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relays.
 
UTSA last competed on March 28-30 with a partial squad at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin. Danielle Spence placed ninth among collegians in the triple jump with a leap of 13.01m (42-8 ¼), while Andre Douglas was sixth among collegiate competition in the B section of the triple jump with a 15.09m (49-6 ¼) effort. Davante Edwards took 11th in the high jump with a season-best 2.04m (6-8 ¼) clearance. The 4x800m relay team of Zack Kovar, Luca Chatham, Cameron Hudson and Monty Bertschy passed the baton to a time of 7:44.67 to place sixth on the final day of the meet.
 
The UTSA men own 11 top-five marks on the latest Conference USA performance list. Andrew Pirog leads the circuit in the 400m hurdles (52.51), while the 4x800m relay squad tops the league with a 7:44.67 clocking. Patrick Prince is second in the 110m hurdles (13.98), Douglas has the second-best triple jump (15.44m/50-8) and Jake McDaniel stands second in the decathlon (6,648). Vincent Perez ranks third in the hammer throw (59.46m/195-1), while McDaniel and Edwards rank fourth (2.05m/6-8 ¾) and fifth (2.04m (6-8 ¼), respectively, in the high jump. Chatham is fifth in the 800m (1:51.71), as is Justin Wright in the decathlon (6,082), while the 4x400m relay team has the fifth-fastest time (3:14.79) in C-USA.
 
The women boast seven top-five marks on the most recent C-USA list. Orla Brothers has clocked the league's fastest 400m hurdles time (1:00.12), Spence sits atop the conference in the triple jump (13.36m/43-10) and Gabriyella Torres has posted the highest point total in the heptathlon (5,001). Maia Campbell is fourth in the shot put (14.61m/47-11 ¼), while Caroline Bellows is tied for the fifth-best clearance in the pole vault (3.70m/12-1 ½), Chase Whiting ranks fifth in the heptathlon (4,296) and the 4x400m relay team stands fifth (3:46.10).
