BATON ROUGE, La. — Ana Gonzalez collected her first collegiate win to lead UTSA to a tie for fourth place at the LSU Tiger Classic, which wrapped up Sunday at University Club (par 72/6,266 yards) in Baton Rouge, La.
Gonzalez posted a 4-over-par 220 to pick up her first individual crown as a Roadrunner and help UTSA share fourth place with No. 19 TCU in the 10-team field.
A sophomore from Monterrey, Mexico, Gonzalez entered the final round in sole possession of first place after opening with an even-par 72 on Friday and posting a 1-under 71 on Saturday. She held onto the top spot despite tough playing conditions on the final day, turning in a 77 on the strength of birdies on the 478-yard, par-5 sixth, the 351-yard, par-4 14th and the 494-yard, par-5 17th holes.
Gonzalez, who has a pair of runner-up finishes under her belt and now owns six career top 10s, held off Campbell's Stacey White, who shot a final-round 71 to close out a 221. She is the 11th different Roadrunner to claim individual medalist honors in the 14-year history of the program and the first since Julie Houston won the 2018 Conference USA title.
Meanwhile, the aforementioned Houston tied for 10th place with a 226 for her 13th career top-10 finish. The senior from Allen, Texas, registered a 79 in the final round that featured a pair of birdies on the front nine after carding a 74-73—147 on the first two days.
Behind that duo, UTSA posted a 912 to tie the nationally ranked Horned Frogs for fourth, just four shots behind No. 39 Old Dominion (908) and 10 back of host LSU (902). No. 25 Campbell claimed the team title with an 896.
Hannah Holzmann and Brooke Nolte ended up in a tie for 28th after each shot a 233. Holzmann, a freshman from San Antonio, posted rounds of 78, 73 and 82, while Nolte, a junior out of Melissa, Texas, turned in a 75,78 and 80 during the 54-hole event.
Madison Kidd rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 50th (81-83-82—246), while Katia Mexsen was 59th (89-88-92—269) while playing as an individual.
The Roadrunners will return to the course on April 8-9 at the The Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Ga.
