HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped a 72-39 decision to Southern Miss for the final road game of the season.
The Roadrunners fell to 7-20 on the season, while Southern Miss improved to 17-11.
The Lady Eagles shot 43.8 percent from the field as they led 18-7 after the first quarter.
In the second, UTSA and USM each scored 14 points. The Roadrunners shot 50 percent from the field with Tija Hawkins leading the team with nine points. UTSA brought the score within eight points, twice. Back-to-back shots from Karrington Donald closed the gap the first time at the 7:59 mark. The second eight-point difference was at the 5:53 mark after Tija Hawkins hit back-to-back jumpers. The Lady Eagles led 32-21 at the half.
The Roadrunners shot 55.6 percent in the third. USM continued to add to its lead, scoring 20 points in the quarter. Megan Brown scored eight points to help the Lady Eagles keep the lead. Southern Miss led 52-32 going to the fourth.
The Lady Eagles scored 20 more points in the fourth to secure the win.
The Roadrunners return to action on March 7 when they host Rice for the final game of the season. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
