SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox has added Amaya Scott, who is ranked 15th in the world on the junior indoor pentathlon list, to the Roadrunners' 2019 signing class.
A native of Romsey, England, Scott has developed into one of the top athletes in her age group in her native country. She won the England U20 high jump title in February by clearing 1.77 meters (5-9 ¾) one month after finishing second in the England U20 pentathlon with a personal-best total of 3,971 points, which ranks her second in Great Britain and 15th in the world. She also posted 3,962 points to place fourth in the pentathlon at the Cardiff International in January.
"We are very excited to announce Amaya Scott as a member of our signing class," Fox said. "She is one of the top junior multi-eventers in the world and also one of the best high jumpers in Great Britain. She has a very high ceiling in what we think she can accomplish in this sport, and she will have an immediate impact on our program once she steps foot on campus."
In 2018, Scott cleared a personal-best height of 1.80m (5-10 ¾) in winning the South of England AA U20 high jump crown and she also claimed top honors in the event at the South of England Inter County Championships. She also recorded a PR of 5.83m (19-1 ½) in the long jump at the England U20 Championships this year.
Scott is the 12th announced member of UTSA's 2019 class, as she joins women's signees Taylor Armstrong, Vera Chinedu, Ana Carolin Da Silva, Natasha Purchas, Zoie Reyna and Maren Wilms and men's signees Jayton Acosta, Oquendo Bernard, Joel McFarlane, Jack Turner, Harrison Wade.
