SAN ANTONIO– UTSA sophomore guards Jhivvan Jackson and Keaton Wallace have been tabbed first-team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, it was announced on Thursday afternoon.
The pair were among the five Conference USA first-team selections, joining Old Dominion guards B.J. Stith and Ahmad Caver, and WKU center Charles Bassey. Marshall had a pair of guards, Jon Elmore and C.J. Burks join the second-team all-district, along with FIU's Brian Beard, Charlotte's Jon Davis and Southern Miss guard Tyree Griffin.
It marks the second all-district honor for Jackson, who was tabbed first-team All-District (inclusive of the states of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas) by the United States Basketball Writers Association. Jackson has also earned first-team All-Conference USA accolades in a voting of league coaches and media.
A product of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Jackson led the league with 22.9 points per game as a sophomore, despite returning from a season-ending injury in 2017-18 that interrupted his C-USA Freshman of the Year campaign. Jackson returned from injury for the fourth game of 2018-19 and played on a minute restriction for the following five outings. Over his last 24 games as a starter, Jackson averaged 24.1 points per game.
Wallace, a native of Dallas, was named second-team All-Conference USA in 2018-19 after a breakout season as the league's fourth-highest scorer, averaging 20.2 points per game. He added 5.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, while sporting 22.1 points and 58 rebounds per game in C-USA action.
The duo combined to 43.1 points per game to become the highest scoring backcourt in college basketball. As the fourth-highest scoring duo in the NCAA, Jackson and Wallace ranked only behind South Dakota State's Mike Daum and David Jenkins, Duke's R.J. Barrett and Zion Williamson, and C-SUN's Lamie Diane and Terrell Gomez.
Jackson sported 23 games of at least 20 points as a sophomore, including a stretch of eight straight. His 22.9 points are the third-most in single-season history and the marked the highest points per game average since Derrick Gervin in 1984-84. He is averaging 20.6 points in his career, the second best total in school annals.
Wallace finished the year ranked 45th in the NCAA in scoring, fourth in the nation in 3-pointers made per game and has advanced to 14th on the all-time UTSA scoring list with 1,044 points. He set the single-season program mark with 121 3-pointers and his 195 career treys ranks second in UTSA history. He finished with 16 games of at least 20 points, including a career-high 45 points at Marshall, the second-most in C-USA history.
