Track & Field to host Roadrunner Invitational this Thursday-Saturday

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track & field teams will host the Roadrunner Invitational this Thursday-Saturday, March 21-23, at Park West Athletics Complex. Admission and parking are free.

The Roadrunners will welcome Akron, James Madison, Oklahoma, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State and UTRGV to the Alamo City for the second of back-to-back home meets.

The three-day meet will get underway at noon Thursday with the first event — the 100 meters — in the decathlon, followed by the heptathlon 100m hurdles at 12:30 p.m.

The heptathlon long jump and decathlon 110m hurdles will kick off Friday's action at 10 a.m. Field events will get underway with the women's hammer throw and men's shot put at 1 p.m.

Saturday's action will start with field events at 11 a.m. and running events on a rolling schedule beginning at 2 p.m.

The Roadrunners won five events at last week's outdoor season-opening UTSA Invitational.

On the men's side, Luca Chatham raced to top honors in the 1,500m with a personal-best time of 4:00.54, while Andre Douglas skipped to a gold-medal mark of 15.44 meters (50-8) in the triple jump. Patrick Prince cruised to victory in the 110m hurdles with a 13.98 clocking and Caleb Devereaux was the top collegiate finisher in the 800m in 1:54.42.

Caroline Bellows cleared 3.65m (11-11 ¾) to finish as the top collegian in the women's pole vault.

UTSA's women finished fifth in the team standings with 85 points at the 2018 Roadrunner Invitational. Danielle Spence finished second in the triple jump with a 12.60m (41-4 ¼) measurement, while Gabriyella Torres secured silver in the heptathlon with 4,954 points.

Adrian Riley won the decathlon with 7,437 points and Jake McDaniel tallied 6,385 for second place, while Prince captured gold in the 110m hurdles in 13.95 to help lead the men to sixth with 72 points at last year's meet.
