SAN ANTONIO – Middle Tennessee won the third game of the three-game series 11-9 in three innings Sunday afternoon.
UTSA falls to 14-12, 5-1 C-USA on the season, while MT improves to 14-14, 1-2 C-USA.
The Blue Raiders were on the board early with a run in the top of the first. Sydney Heath hit a double to right center. Jocelynn De La Cruz hit a strong single over third base as Heath scored.
Ryan King hit a solo homer to left field in the top of the second as Middle Tennessee led 2-0. In the bottom of the frame, Victoria Villarreal was walked and Kaitlin Lopez hit a single past the shortstop. Paige Pacher reached on a fielder's choice as Villarreal scored. Celeste Loughman hit a single over second base as Brycen Blinco and Lopez scored to take the lead 3-2.
De La Cruz hit a three-run homer to right field as the Blue Raiders led 5-3 in the third. Villarreal, Lopez, Elexu Trenkle opened the inning with walks. Pacher hit a double to left center as Lopez and Villarreal scored to tie the game at 5. Bailee Baldwin cleared the bases with a grand slam to right field as Loughman, Pacher and Trenkle scored.
Heath reached home on an error in the fourth.
Cushing homered to left field in the fifth, closing in the gap. McClure singled down the left line and Cuccia singled to right as McClure scored. A single from King allowed McGee to score. UTSA led 9-8 after the fifth.
The Blue Raiders tied the game in the top of the seventh. Cushing was walked and Cuccia hit another single down the right field line, scoring Cushing to tie the game at nine.
In the top of the ninth, Cushing hit another home run as MT took back the lead. McClure followed with a homer to left field to take the win.
The Roadrunners return to action March 23-24 at Marshall.
