Holzmann guides Women's Golf to sixth-place tie at BYU at Entrada Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Led by an 11th-place finish from Hannah Holzmann, the UTSA women's golf team tied for sixth at the BYU at Entrada Classic, which concluded Tuesday at Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club (par 72/6,082 yards).
 
Holzmann carded a 3-over-par 219 to end up in a six-way tie for 11th in the 75-player field. The freshman from San Antonio used three birdies, including back-to-back on Nos. 17-18, to post an even-par 72 in the final round. She finished the event with nine birdies, tied for most on the team, and she played the par fives at 3-under par en route to her second-best 54-hole scorecard this season.
 
The Roadrunners finished in a tie with Colorado State and Southern Miss for sixth place in the 14-team field. UTSA posted rounds of 298, 301 and 300 for an 899 in placing sixth or better for the sixth time this campaign. The Birds ended up just four shots behind BYU and 10 out of a tie for third place between Boise State and Idaho, while also finishing one shot ahead of San Francisco and 16 in front of Portland State.
 
Ana Gonzalez tied for 32nd with a 226. The sophomore from Monterrey, Mexico, carded rounds of 75, 74 and 77 and led the entire field with 38 pars.
 
Katia Mexsen finished two shots back in a tie for 45th with a 228. The freshman from Torreon, Mexico, posted a 78 Tuesday after turning in a pair of 75s Monday, and she also shared the team lead with nine birdies.
 
Julie Houston registered the Roadrunners' second-best round of the final day with a 1-over 73 that was highlighted by a pair of birdies. The senior all-conference performer finished in a tie for 48th with a 229 (80-76-73).
 
Madison Kidd eagled the par-5 first hole in her final round and finished in a tie for 56th with a 235 (77-76-82).
 
No. 12 Kent State captured the team crown with a 3-under 861 behind individual medalist Thitapa Pakdeesettak's 4-under 212, while Texas Tech placed second with an 865.
 
The Roadrunners will be back on the course March 29-31 when they travel to Baton Rouge for the LSU Tiger Classic.
