FULLERTON, Calif. – The UTSA softball team fell to No. 7 Tennessee and No. 22 Auburn on Thursday.
The Roadrunners are 9-8 overall this season.
Game 1 – vs No. 7 Tennessee
The UTSA softball team dropped a 12-2 decision to No. 7 Tennessee in five innings Thursday afternoon at the PGF Field.
The Lady Vols were on the board early with a run in the first.
The Roadrunners had back-to-back 1-2-3 innings.
In the top of the third, Tennessee added 10 runs to increase the lead to 11. The Lady Vols scored on eight hits, including a single to left center, a ground out to second base, single up the middle, single to right, single up the left side, single to shortstop and a double to left, an error and a fielder's choice.
Freshman Kindell Brooks put the Roadrunners on the board with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Bailee Baldwin as UTSA trailed 2-11.
The Lady Vols had one more hit in the fifth and the Roadrunners had another 1-2-3 inning to finish the game in five.
Madison Nelson dropped to 5-4 on the season.
Game 2 – vs No. 22 Auburn
The Roadrunners fell to No. 22 Auburn 7-1 Thursday evening in California.
Veach put the Tigers on the board first off an error in the top of the first inning, advancing Rivera to home. The Roadrunners tied up the game (1-1) in the bottom of the frame when Kindell Brooks singled to left center, advancing Celeste Loughman, who had reached on a walk, and Riley Grunberg who singled to right field.
Auburn took back the lead in the third when Maresette singled to second base then stole second. McCrackin reached on a wild pitch and Rivera hit a sac fly to score Maresette. The Tigers led 2-1 after the third.
Greenwood scored another run for Auburn in the top of the fourth. Perry singled to center field and Fornis hit a bunt single. Podany followed with a single to right field as runners advanced. Maresette grounded out to first base and Greenwood scored. The Roadrunners had one hit in the bottom of the inning, but left two on base.
Auburn captured the victory in the top of the seventh with four more runs off two doubles, two bunt singles and a sac fly to center field.
UTSA posted three hits with one run and two errors as the Tigers had 11 hits and two errors.
Clarissa Hernandez fell to 3-2 on the season after pitching 6.0 innings.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they take on CSUN at 7:30 p.m. and Fresno State at 10 p.m. CT.
