SAN ANTONIO-- UTSA baseball senior standouts Bryan Arias and Bradley Griggs have been voted as team co-captains for 2018-19, it was announced by coach Jason Marshall on Wednesday afternoon.
Arias, a native of San Antonio, and Griggs, a native of Castroville, Texas, were selected as team co-captains for the first time in their careers. Arias enters the year as a twice-selected preseason All-America honoree, and as a member of the preseason All-Conference USA team, voted on by the circuit's coaches.
In his three-year career, Arias has collected 209 hits and hit .327 (209-for-640) with 45 doubles, eight triples, 20 homers and 98 RBI, stealing 26 of 36 bases. As a junior in 2018, Arias hit .335 with 16 two-baggers, three triples, eight homers and 35 RBI, swiping 12 bases.
Griggs has been an oft-used reliever throughout his career at UTSA. A 5-foot-10, 185-pound southpaw has appeared in 42 games with one start and one save in his career. He is coming off a season where he worked in 19 games with a save and a 2.81 ERA, tossing 25.2 innings with 22 hits and 15 walks allowed, striking out 25. Griggs has thrown 46 innings in his career.
UTSA will open its 2019 season on Feb. 15-17 at Roadrunner Field in a series with McNeese State.
