Roadrunners defeat Southeastern Louisiana, fall to PVAMU

HAMMOND, La. – The UTSA softball team improved to 3-6 on the season after a 6-2 loss to Prairie View A&M and a 1-0 victory over Prairie View A&M.
 
Game 1 – vs Prairie View A&M
UTSA and Prairie View each had a hit in the first inning, but great defensive plays kept anyone from scoring.
 
In the second inning, Hernandez hit a single to right while Garza reached on a fielder's choice. After a walk and a sac bunt, runners advanced and Jiminez and Garcia scored as the Lady Panthers led 2-0.
 
PVAMU had three more runs in the third to increase the lead to five (5-0). Batters reach on a fielding error, two singles to right field and a single to shortstop.
 
The Roadrunners got on the board in the fifth after Lauren Coerver and Celelte Loughman were walked. Bailee Baldwin hit a triple to right field allowing Coerver and Loughman to score. The Lady Panthers scored another run in the bottom of the frame off a single to left field. Prairie View A&M led 6-2 after the fifth.
 
The Lady Panthers posted a hit in the sixth, but strong pitching a defense from the Roadrunners kept them from scoring.
 
Game 2 – vs Southeastern Louisiana
The Roadrunners garnered their third victory in a 1-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana Saturday afternoon.
 
Neither team could get a hit until the bottom of the second when the Lions posted two hits, a single down the left field line and a single to center field.
 
Brycen Blinco hit a single up the middle in the top of the third with one out, but two fly outs followed, ending the top of the inning.
 
UTSA got on the board in the top of the seventh. Freshman Riley Grunberg hit a single to left field as Kindell Brooks scored.
 
The Roadrunners allowed eight hits from the Lions, but great defensve plays didn't allow them to reach home.
 
UTSA returns to action tomorrow for the final day of the Lion Classic. The Roadrunners will take on Missouri State at 9 a.m.
