Wallace named C-USA Player of the Week, again

SAN ANTONIO – After averaging 25.5 points and seven rebounds per game in a pair of wins last week, UTSA men's basketball sophomore Keaton Wallace has been named Conference USA Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Wallace, a native of Dallas and a product of Richardson High School, earned his second consecutive C-USA Player of the Week accolade after sharing the honor with fellow sophomore scoring dynamo Jhivvan Jackson last week. Wallace had a career high 45 points in a win at Marshall on Feb. 2, after Jackson splashed 46 points at WKU on Jan. 31.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound guard averaged 25.5 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals over two wins last week. He set the single-season UTSA record for 3-pointers made in a season over the week. In Thursday's rout of FIU, Wallace went for 27 points and was 11 of 13 from the field, including 5 of 6 from 3-point land. He added six rebounds and four assists in the win. On Saturday vs. FAU, Wallace went for 24 points in 36 minutes, grabbing eight rebounds.

On the year, Wallace averages 21 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game. In league play, Wallace averages 24.1 points and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds per game. Over his last five games, Wallace is averaging 30.2 points and 6.2 rebounds, while sporting 25 points and 6.6 rebounds per game over his last 10 outings.

Combining with Jackson, the UTSA sophomore duo rank as the nation's leading scoring backcourt and the third-highest scoring duo in the NCAA, behind only Duke's Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett, and South Dakota State's Mike Daum and David Jenkins. The pair combine to product 55 percent of UTSA's scoring in 2018-19.

UTSA (15-10, 9-3 C-USA) hits the road for a crucial two-game swing to close the regularly scheduled conference schedule, traveling to face Southern Miss – winners of four straight – on Thursday at 7 p.m. UTSA, which has clinched a top-five seed in the bonus-play portion of the regular-season schedule, will then face LA Tech on Saturday at 2 p.m. The league office will announce the bonus-play schedule following games on Saturday.
