SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's golf team will open the spring season on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 11-12, at the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Course (par 71/6,059 yards) in Kyle.
The Roadrunners will line up against Boston College, Cal State Fullerton, Houston Baptist, Kansas State, Lamar, Little Rock, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Tulsa, UT Arlington, UTEP and UTRGV in the 54-hole tournament. There will be 36 holes of continuous play on Monday followed by the final round on Tuesday with 8:15 a.m. shotgun starts set for both days. UTSA posted a trio of top-five finishes in the fall campaign, highlighted by winning the Lady Maxwell Invitational in Ardmore, Okla. The defending Conference USA champions turned in an 876 to notch their second team title of the calendar year.
Individually, Ana Gonzalez leads the team with a 74.14 stroke average and the sophomore is followed closely by senior Julie Houston (74.43) and freshman Hannah Holzmann (74.93).
UTSA finished second (881) at last year's Texas State Invitational behind a seventh-place showing from Madison Kidd, who fired a trio of 73s. Gonzalez was 11th (220), while Julie Houston tied for 12th (221).
