Roadrunners fall short to Abilene Christian in Eight Innings
SAN MARCOS – The UTSA softball team fell short to Abilene Christian, 6-5 in eight innings Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Field.
 
Tori Poullard grounded out to shortstop in the top of the second to advance runners and put ACU on the board first. Blair Clayton followed behind with a single to gain another run for the Wildcats as they led 2-0. In the bottom of the second, Paige Pacher hit a single to advance Kindell Brooks to second and Hailey Garza to third as Riley Grunberg scored to put the Roadrunners on the board.
 
Grunberg hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third as UTSA took the lead, 3-2. 
 
The Wildcats followed with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to take back the lead, 4-3.
 
Junior Elexus Trenkle hit a single and advanced to second on a fielding error, moving Grunberg to third as Victoria Villarreal scored to tie the game, 4-4 after five.
 
Abilene Christian had three hits in two innings, but the Roadrunners defense forced the game into extra innings. 
 
Katelyn Belch singled into left field as Poullard scored. Samantha Bradley hit a single to center as runners advanced and Belch scored as the Wildcats led 6-4. Freshman Kaitlin Lopez scored on a wild pitch after being placed on second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. The Roadrunners had the bases loaded, but a popup from Grunberg ended the inning.
 
Clarissa Hernandez was charged with the loss after allowing five hits and two runs in three innings.
 
Roadrunners drop 6-2 decision to Bison
Freshman Kaitlin Lopez hit a two-run home in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners dropped a 6-2 decision to North Dakota State Saturday evening. 
 
Cara Beatty put the Bison on the board in the bottom of the second reaching second base on a fielding error and advancing on a throw, allowing Maddie Hansen to score.
 
Another advance off a bad throw for UTSA, added one run for NDSU in the bottom of the third.
 
The Bison scored two more runs in the fifth, taking a 4-0 lead. They posted another two runs in the sixth. Hansen hit a home run to left field and Sam Koehn scored after Madyson Camacho was walked, advancing runners.
 
A two-run home run from Kaitlin Lopez put UTSA on the board in the seventh, but two batters struck out swinging, ending the game.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they play Colorado State for their final game of the Bobcat Classic. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
