SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team opens Conference USA when it hosts UTEP on Saturday at the Convocation Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
This will be the first of two meetings for the teams, with UTSA traveling to El Paso on Feb. 23.
All-time series
The Roadrunners and the Miners are meeting for the 34th time in program history. UTSA currently leads the series 22-11 with the last meeting on Feb. 23, 2018 when the Roadrunners won 58-55.
Conference USA
UTSA is 37-49 in C-USA action. The Roadrunners went 6-10 last season in conference games and made it to the second round of the conference tournament, which hadn't been done since the 2013-14 season.
The Roadrunners are 1-4 in conference openers since moving to Conference USA. The last time UTSA and UTEP met in the conference opener was on Jan. 1 2017 when the Roadrunners won 83-81 on overtime.
Scouting UTSA
UTSA (5-7) enters the contest off an 86-55 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville. Marie Benson and Tija Hawkins each hit a double-double, marking the first game of the season this has been done.
The Roadrunners shot 43 percent from the field and four players reached double digits, including Marie Benson, Tija Hawkins, Karrington Donald and Charlotte Ellmore.
UTSA finished the non-conference slate with wins over Concordia Texas (78-51), UTRGV (61-58), Weber State (66-59), San Diego (87-77) and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Scouting UTEP
UTEP (3-10) comes into Saturday after a 66-45 loss at Tulsa. The Miners shot 32.7 percent from the field with Katarina Zec scoring a season-high 16 points.
The Miners closed their non-conference play with victories over Alcorn State, CSU Bakersfield and Western Illinois. Six of the 10 losses were within seven points or less.
Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN+.
