SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped an 81-62 decision to WKU Thursday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
The Roadrunners (6-14, 1-7) shot 52.3 percent from the field and posted 29 rebounds against the Lady Toppers (13-9, 7-1).
In the first quarter, WKU went on a 6-0 run twice taking the lead early. At the 3:34 mark, UTSA went on a 5-0 run to bridge the gap to four (13-17). Barbara Benson scored at 1:13 to bring the Roadrunners within two, 15-17, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Toppers led 22-15 after the first.
UTSA scored 18 points in the second quarter, shooting 50 percent from the field. Marie Benson made her seventh 3-pointer at the 3:42 mark as the Roadrunners shot 50 percent from the arc. WKU led 52-33 at the half.
The Roadrunners and the Lady Toppers continued to battle it out in the third. WKU took a lead as much 28 points, as they shot 28.5 percent from the field. The Lady Toppers led 72-44 going to the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, Marie Benson scored 11 points as the Roadrunners outscored the Lady Toppers 18-9. UTSA went on a 7-0 run starting at the 6:38 mark and an 8-0 run with 3:54 remaining, but it wasn't enough to close the gap from WKU.
The Roadrunners return to action Saturday when they host Marshall at 2 p.m.
