Roadrunners rout Charlotte on Thursday, 88-43

SAN ANTONIO — Jhivvan Jackson led three Roadrunners in double figures with 28 points and UTSA routed Charlotte, 88-43, in Conference USA action on Thursday night at the Convocation Center.

The Roadrunners shot 55.7 percent and ran their record to 11-9 overall and 5-2 in the league in allowing their fewest points since UTRGV scored 43 in 2014. The victory also extended UTSA's home winning streak to seven games and tied the all-time series with the 49ers (5-14, 2-6) at 3-3.

Jackson topped 20 points for the 13th time in the last 15 contests and 27th time in his 46th career games after shooting 11-of-19 from the field, including 6-for-12 from behind the three-point line.

Keaton Wallace added 15 points and Adokiye Iyaye pitched in with a season high-tying 12 on a 5-for-6 night from the floor, while Byron Frohnen pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Jackson poured in 21 of his points in the first half, including five 3-pointers that keyed a 26-4 run, as the sophomore guard outscored the 49ers by two during the first 20 minutes.

Jackson, a native of Puerto Rico, hit treys on three straight possessions and also knocked down a mid-range jumper as part of 16 unanswered points scored by the Roadrunners that turned an early 8-6 deficit into a 22-8 advantage with 10:52 left in the opening stanza.

Wallace and Nick Allen connected from long distance and Jackson drained a jumper in the final minute of the half to hand the home team a 44-19 lead at the break.

The Roadrunners opened the second half with a 7-2 spurt that pushed the lead to 30 points.

Charlotte cut it to 51-26 after a pair of free throws from Jon Davis, who led the 49ers with 12 points, and a three from Jaylan McGill, but UTSA responded with a 9-1 run and never looked back in the 45-point victory

UTSA held Charlotte to just 29.6 percent from the field, including 3-of-22 from downtown, and outrebounded the 49ers by a 39-31 margin. The Roadrunners also registered 15 assists against just seven turnovers and blocked six shots, three by Atem Bior.

The Roadrunners will host Old Dominion on Saturday, Jan 26. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN+ and Ticket 760 AM.
