Women’s tennis adds trio for spring season

SAN ANTONIO -- UTSA women's tennis has added three student-athletes for the spring season, it was announced by head coach Ki Kroll

The Roadrunners will welcome the addition of Catalina Cabrique (Bogata, Columbia), Mariah Plauth (Florianapolis, Brazil) and Jasmin Starr (Victoria, Australia) for the spring schedule.

Catalina Cabrique – Fr. – Bogata, Columbia (Colegio Calasanz)
NOTES: Prepped at Colegio Calasanz in Bogata, Columbia … as a senior, won 21 singles and six doubles matches, finishing with 14 singles ITF wins and 13 doubles … advanced to the finals in singles and doubles in a competition in Ecuador … led team to the Southamerican Championships … also competed in swimming and gymnastics for five years … earned a 3.8 GPA in school and was named the athlete of the year … is interested in pursuing a career in biomedical engineering. 

Mariah Plauth – Gr. – Florianapolis, Brazil (Colegio Gardner / University of Mobile [Ala.])
NOTES:Starred at the University of Mobile [Ala.] while earning her undergraduate degree from 2014-18 …  The two-time conference player of the year and 2015-16 league freshman of the year … ranked No. 5 in the ITA rankings on April 14, 2017, moving from 30th to open the NAIA Women's Division … ended the regular-season with a perfect 22-0 record at No. 1 singles for the Lady Rams and helped them to a No. 2-seed in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) tournament … in 2015-16, raanked 32nd in the ITA NAIA Women's Individual Rankings … went 13-2 in singles and 10-4 in doubles, with an 8-4 mark … Three-time all-conference selection. 

Jasmin Starr – Fr. – Templestowe, Victoria, Australia (Box Hill Secondary School) 
NOTES:Prepped at Box Hill Secondary School in Victoria, Australia … went 37-16 in singles and 15-7 in doubles as a senior at Box Hill Secondary School … ranked as high as No. 60 in the Australian Women's Division. 

UTSA kicks off its spring slate on Saturday, traveling to face Texas A&M in College Station, Texas at 10 a.m. 

The Roadrunners return several players who were vital members of the playing roster in 2017-18, including junior Laura Cabrera (Barcelona, Spain), Kylee Kato (Kahului, Hawaii), Diya Menon (Plano, Texas) and Charleen Tiwari (Perth, Australia). Freshman Sophie Omoworare (Plano, Texas) opened her collegiate career during the fall as the Roadrunners competed in four preseason events.
