Men's golf unveils 2018-19 schedule

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head men's golf coach John Knauer unveiled Monday the program's 2018-19 schedule, which features six tournaments in the state of Texas.

"We are excited about this year's schedule and the opportunity to compete against some of the historically best teams in collegiate golf," Knauer said. "You always want to play against the best competition to raise the bar for your own program. This year we will get to match up against some of the best players in the country and that will help us improve and be well prepared for conference and postseason."

The Roadrunners will open the fall season of four events by hosting their annual Lone Star Invitational on Sept. 10-11. Now in its ninth year, the tournament will move from the spring to the fall season and across the city to the new home of UTSA golf, TPC San Antonio. The 54-hole event will be played on the Oaks Course, which also serves as the site of the PGA TOUR's Valero Texas Open.

UTSA then will make three straight trips to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex for the remainder of the fall campaign.

The Roadrunners will compete in the Trinity Forest Invitational on Sept. 23-25. Hosted by SMU, the three-day event will be contested at Trinity Forest Golf Club, site of the PGA TOUR's AT&T Byron Nelson.

On Oct. 6-8, UTSA is slated to play in the Maridoe Intercollegiate at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas.

The Birds then close out the fall on Oct. 22-23 at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas.

UTSA will tee off the spring season on Jan. 28-29 at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson.

There are a pair of events scheduled for the following month, the All-American Intercollegiate on Feb. 17-19 at the Golf Club of Houston and the Louisiana Classics on Feb. 25-26 at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La.

The Roadrunners will play in the Border Olympics on March 11-12 at Laredo Country Club and the Lake Charles Invitational on March 18-19 at the Country Club at the Golden Nugget.

The Conference USA Championship is slated for April 22-25 at Texarkana Country Club.

Six NCAA Regional sites will be contested on May 12-15, while the NCAA Championship is set for May 24-29 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
