Dear Roadrunner Family:
During my first year as UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, I have had the privilege of meeting with a large number of constituents. I am amazed and encouraged by the energy and excitement surrounding our university. With an energetic and forward-thinking leader in Dr. Taylor Eighmy, a beautiful campus located in the vibrant and growing city of San Antonio, staff and coaches dedicated to developing leaders and a strong group of supporters who want to help the university succeed, UTSA will be a model for student success, a great public research university and an exemplar for strategic growth and innovative success.
Dr. Eighmy has said often that athletics is the front porch of a university. Therefore, we are embarking on a journey that will help us plan the future of UTSA Athletics and align with President Eighmy's vision and strategic initiatives for the university. Identifying our core values, setting a vision and reestablishing our purpose will provide our department the opportunity to come together and embrace why we do what we do.
That journey is the Roadrunner Game Plan — a strategy to achieve excellence.
In putting together the Roadrunner Game Plan, we consulted with The PICTOR Group and received input from numerous stakeholders, including university leadership, coaches, staff, student-athletes, members of the community and donors. The result is a new vision, purpose and values for UTSA Athletics.
Our Winning Vision
UTSA Athletics transforms lives as San Antonio's nationally recognized NCAA Division I program.
Our Winning Purpose
UTSA Athletics develops champions in the classroom, in competition and in life, while serving as an integral part of the undergraduate student experience, enhancing the visibility of the university and engaging the community.
Our Winning Values
Excellence — We strive for excellence in the classroom, on the field of play, and in our lives.
Integrity — We act with integrity at all times.
Unity — We are united as Roadrunners. We are a source of pride for the university and our community.
The Roadrunner Game Plan consists of four strategic initiatives. These focus areas will strategically advance UTSA Athletics.
Student-Athlete Experience
Develop and enhance support programs to ensure a quality student-athlete experience.
Culture of Excellence
Create a culture of competitive and academic excellence and develop an operational infrastructure that supports best operating practices and improves efficiencies.
Resource Development
Establish a funding model that is built for growth and will support prioritized program, human capital and facility development.
Uniting Our Community
Honor and develop UTSA traditions, engage our campus, and connect our local and regional community.
Establishing these themes is one thing. Acting on them is another. Through the creation of four committees, that each represent the four strategic initiatives, we have already made progress on multiple goals, including restructuring the department, experiencing the second-highest attended football game in our history and hiring the architects of Populous & MarmonMok to program the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence.
We are charged with elevating this department and providing a positive impact on and experience for our student-athletes, the UTSA student body as a whole and our entire community. Our staff and I will work tirelessly to ensure we approach each day with the Roadrunner Game Plan at the forefront of everything we do.
We can. We will!
Sincerely,
Lisa Campos, Ed.D.
Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Athletics Director
