Burford named to Conference USA All-Freshman Team

DALLAS — Spencer Burford has been named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team as selected by the league's 14 head coaches, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Burford, 6-foot-4, 310-pound offensive guard, was one of 12 players selected for that side of the ball on the 27-member squad. The San Antonio Wagner High School product started all 10 games in which he appeared this season, missing the Baylor and UAB contests due to injury. A 4-star recruit who played in the 2017 Blue-Grey All-American Bowl, he helped pave the way for a ground game that gained 100-plus yards five times, including 145 in the 25-21 victory against Texas State. Burford also helped provide protection for a passing attack that tallied 1,918 yards this season, including 269 in the season finale against North Texas.

Burford is the fifth Roadrunner to collect C-USA All-Freshman Team accolades, as he joins Codie Brooks (2013), Jaylon Haynes (2017), Jared Sackett (2017) and Josiah Tauaefa (2016).
