SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team opens the 2018-19 season hosting Concordia Texas on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
In her second year as head coach, Kristen Holt looks to build off the team that finished third in offensive rebounds in Conference USA last season. The Roadrunners hosted Sul Ross State on Nov. 2 for the only exhibition game of the season, where they defeated the Lobos, 84-41. Marie Benson put up her first double-double of the season with 25 points and 12 rebounds. The junior was also 10 for 13 in field goals. Hawkins posted 10 points and six rebounds, while freshman Charlotte Ellmore had 12 points in her debut as a Roadrunner.
UTSA shot 50.9 percent from the field and held the Lobos to just one point from a free throw in the third quarter.
The Tornados open their season after a 15-12 overall record last season. Entering his sixth year, head coach Matt Wallis led the team to a 10-7 American Southwest Conference record. Concordia averaged 60.6 points and 39.2 rebounds per game.
Tuesday's matchup will mark the second time the two teams are meeting. The last time the Roadrunners faced the Tornados was on Nov. 12, 2012 when UTSA won, 88-29.
