UTSA falls to No. 9 Texas Wednesday afternoon

AUSTIN – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped a 98-54 decision to No. 9 Texas Wednesday afternoon at the Frank C. Erwin Center.
 
Marie Benson and Barbara Benson led the Roadrunners (3-5) with 14 and 13 points, respectively. UTSA shot 37.5 percent from the field, while the Longhorns (7-0) shot 50.6 percent to remain undefeated.
 
In the first quarter, Tija Hawkins led the team with six points as the Roadrunners shot 44.4 percent from the field. UTSA trailed by nine (26-17), going to the second quarter.
 
Ryann Stearns hit 100 percent from the arch (2-2) and the free throw line (3-3) in the second quarter as the Roadrunners trailed 50-29 going into halftime.
 
The Longhorns held the Roadrunners to just nine points as they led 80-38 going to the fourth. Marie Benson posted four points and Barbara Benson hit her first 3-pointer.
 
In the fourth quarter, Barbara Benson hit a career-high 13 points at the 8:01 mark as the Roadrunners posted 16 points, just two shy of Texas' 18.
 
Marie Benson, Barbara Benson, Ryann Stearns and Tija Hawkins all hit double digits against the Longhorns.
 
UTSA returns to the court Dec. 5 when it hosts Utah State at 7 p.m.
