Sturm selected by Commanders in AAF Protect or Pick QB Draft

LAS VEGAS – Former UTSA quarterback Dalton Sturm was selected by the San Antonio Commanders in the fourth round of the Alliance of American Football's inaugural "Protect or Pick" QB Draft on Tuesday night.

A native of Goliad, Texas, and a three-year starter for the Roadrunners, Sturm was protected by the Commanders with the first pick of the fourth round, one spot ahead of Zach Mettenberger, who was chosen by the Memphis Express. The Commanders also selected Dustin Vaughan, Marquise Williams and Logan Woodside in tonight's draft.

Sturm, who began his professional career as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys this summer, is the UTSA career record holder with 49 passing touchdowns and a 134.7 passing efficiency rating. He finished his career ranked second in program annals with 5,768 passing yards, 482 completions, 811 attempts and 56 touchdowns responsible for. Sturm, who appeared in 35 career contests and started his final 31, also set the single-game passing yardage record with 367 against Southern Miss in 2017 and threw four of the five longest passing plays in school history.
